The Randolph Baptist Association coordinated a Mission Trip to New York City August 29-September 5, 2013. The team was composed of 4 from First Baptist Asheboro, 3 from Shady Grove Baptist Church, 2 from Cross Road Baptist Church and 1 from Mt. Gilead Methodist Church. The project took place at the Metropolitan New York Baptist Association building on W. 72nd Street and Broadway in Manhattan. There are 220 churches which support this association. The building is host to many ethnic churches which meet weekly in the building. The six story building was built before the Empire State Building and has been owned by the Metropolitan New York Baptist Association for 40 years. They have been in the process of renovating and upgrading the facility and our RBA team was responsible for the following: ripping up carpet from elevator foyer room, tearing down a wall in the same room, preparing floor and installing ceramic tile in the kitchen, dining room and elevator foyer room, packing up office supplies from the office suite, installing new cabinets in the office suite, 6 different painting projects (including the whole top floor, apartment door, fire alarm bell covers, baseboards where new tile went, laundry/tv room), helping move one of the interns to another apartment. As you can tell this was a very busy week and we had to work around the congregation meeting times and staff meetings. All the projects were completed. On Sunday the mission team attended The First Baptist Church in the City of New York. This church was originally organized in 1762 and the current church building was built in 1891 on the corner of W. 79th Street and Broadway.
